Abstract

Introduction: The oral health perspective implies physical well-being, in addition to the self-perception that one has about it, that is, about the quality of life. Objective: To identify the oral health-related quality of life of the preschool, social characteristics and the level of knowledge in oral health of the caregiver parent. Materials and methods: Descriptive Cross-sectional study of 189 randomly selected parents from a state school in Lima, Peru, who responded to the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) questionnaire to measure oral health-related quality of life of the child, the oral health knowledge questionnaire and the social characteristics form. The Mann Whitney U test and Spearman's correlation were applied. Results: The child's quality of life score was 7,52 + 8,25. The impact component on the child had a score of 3,68 + 5,3, with functional limitation being the most affected dimension (1,58 + 2,55). The family impact component was 3,84 + 4,05, with parental stress (2,35 + 2,58) being the most affected dimension. 58,2% of the parents presented good knowledge (15 to 17 points). There was no relationship between quality of life, level of knowledge and social characteristics (p> 0,05). Conclusions: A low score was found indicating the absence of negative impact of oral health on the quality of life of the preschool.
