Relación clínica y fisiopatológica entre el reflujo gastroesofágico y el Bruxismo: Una Revisión de la literatura

Resumen

La relación entre el reflujo gastroesofágico y el bruxismo ha despertado un interés creciente en la literatura científica, debido a su impacto clínico sobre la salud oral y sistémica. Ambas condiciones se asocian con alteraciones funcionales y estructurales que comprometen la integridad dentaria y reducen la calidad de vida de los pacientes. El objetivo de esta revisión fue analizar críticamente la literatura científica sobre la asociación entre el reflujo gastroesofágico (ERGE) y el bruxismo, considerando los mecanismos fisiopatológicos descritos y sus implicaciones clínicas. Los estudios muestran una asociación significativa entre ERGE y bruxismo, con un riesgo superior a cinco veces de desarrollar bruxismo en personas que padecen reflujo. La combinación de ambas condiciones propicia el desgaste dental por la acción conjunta de ácidos gástricos y fuerzas mecánicas. Esta relación se ve intensificada por factores como el sexo femenino, ansiedad, depresión y trastornos del sueño. Aunque la literatura respalda la asociación entre bruxismo y ERGE, no se ha demostrado una relación causal definitiva. Se requieren estudios longitudinales con herramientas diagnósticas objetivas y un abordaje clínico interdisciplinario para mejorar los resultados en los pacientes.
