Abstract

ABSTRACT

Combined Syndrome (CS) or also known as "anterior hyperfunction syndrome" was first described by Ellsworth Kelly in 1972. It is a dental condition commonly observed in patients with a completely edentulous maxilla and a partially edentulous mandible with preserved anterior teeth. Five classic characteristics of the syndrome can be observed. This report describes the treatment of zygomatic implant placement in the edentulous maxilla using the ALL-ON-FOUR (AO4) technique and a partially edentulous mandible that was treated with the same post-extraction implant technique. The case was successfully rehabilitated the same day, restoring aesthetics and function. The need for a multidisciplinary approach for the prevention and early treatment of this complex condition is emphasized.

Key words: Kelly syndrome; anterior hyperfunction syndrome; combined syndrome; resorbed maxilla; hypertrophic bone; atrophic bone.
