Abstract

Vaccines are substances made with toxoids, bacteria or viruses, which are given to people to create immunity. These have improved in order to help current medicine, eradicating various diseases, reducing mortality rates. To understand the antivaccine movement, it is necessary to know the history, origin and evolution of it. This movement alleges that vaccination was imposed as a mandatory doctrine created for social control and with economic interests of different pharmaceutical houses. Thepopularityoftheseideashascausedthereappearanceofdiseasesthatwerebelievedtobeextinct. Aim: Knowthehistory, background and efficacy of vaccines, as well as anti-vaccine groups, to understand their views, through a bibliographic analysis.Context: The anti-vaccine groups emerged at the same time as the vaccines, but they became important from the publication of an article in 1998 in the magazine "The Lancet" where the "triple viral vaccine" was related, to prevent measles, rubella and mumps; with autism in 2004 the magazine withdrew the article because fraud was demonstrated in this investigation,however,thedamagecausedwasirreparablesincedoubtsarosefromthevaccinesandthereforethegroupstook strength.Methodology: A bibliographic analysis of the literature that analyzes the anti-vaccine movement from its beginnings was used, with historical data and as it is manifested today, scientific evidence of the effectiveness of the vaccines was also reviewed.
