Abstract

The amalgam tattoo represents one of the most common pigmented lesions that can be found in the buccal mucosa, as a consequence of the deposition of particles of metallic material inside the epithelium, causing a characteristic macular lesion, whichmustbeincludedwithinthedifferentialdiagnosesofpigmentedlesionsofmelanocyticorigin. Thecaseofa58-year-old patient, who attended the dentist for dental pain, is reported; in the intraoral examination a macular lesion located in the lower right alveolar ridge was observed; after resolving the reason for consultation, an excisional biopsy was performed, confirming the diagnosis through histopathological examination.
