SURFACE HARDNESS OF A BULK FILL RESIN ACCORDING TO POLISHING TIME

Abstract

Aim: To compare the surface hardness of a polished Bulk Fill resin immediately and at 24 hours. Material and methods: A prospective in vitro comparative study was conducted. 20 specimens of FiltekTM Bulk Fill resin were made, according to ISO 4049, and divided into 2 groups of 10. Group 1: immediate polishing and Group 2: after 24 hours. The values ​​obtained from each indentation were converted into Vickers units (HV) and then analyzed by the t-Student test. Results: The specimens with immediate polishing obtained lower surface hardness (121.3 ± 20.01) than polishing at 24 hours (147.7 ± 19.88), this difference being statistically significant (p = 0.0084). Conclusion: The polished Bulk Fill resin immediately presented lower surface hardness than the polished resin after 24 hours.
