ULECTOMY, TREATMENT OF AN ERUPTION CYST: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

Introduction: Ulectomy is a minimally invasive and easy to perform procedure. It is recommended when delays in tooth eruption occur due to the formation of cysts, including gingival fibrosis and fluid accumulation. Objective: To report the surgical technique from an ulectomy surgery performed in a pediatric patient with delayed eruption of the upper central incisors. Case description: This is a case of a 7 years old female patient who was diagnosed with a cyst eruption of the dental piece 2.1. After giving local anestesia, the ulectomy was performed by making an incision with the Kirkland 15/16 gingivotome, surrounding the incisal portion of the crown of tooth 1.1. This procedure resulted in an elliptical incision to remove the cyst and to allow the eruption of the top central incisor (left side). Conclusion: This ulectomy procedure, as a surgical treatment for a cyst eruption allowed to simultaneously obtain the resolution of the cyst and the partial eruption of the top central left incisor’s crown. There were no postoperative complications in this patient during 15 days of clinical follow-up.
