Abstract

Bacterial contamination of the root canal system in the teeth is the main factor of pulpar and periradicular lesions. The success of endodontic treatment is based on a series of factors including a right diagnosis, treatment planning, knowledge of anatomy and morphology, mechanical chemical preparation of the canal, intracanal dressing if the case requires it, obturation, and correct coronary restoration; to ensure that it remains in short and long term.

With technological advances and scientific evidence, the use of lasers in endodontic therapy is implemented. The most commonly used lasers are diode 940 in order to decontaminate the root canal system.

The objective of this article is to show how the energy of the 940 nm diode laser works, how it interacts with the tissues, and the disinfection of the root canal system.
